Although the weather outside is more autumnal than wintery, we are quickly approaching the long-awaited mid-term break. For students from the Mazowieckie, Lower Silesian, Opole, and West Pomeranian voivodeships, the holidays have just begun. And that means time for shared adventures, family trips, and moments full of joy.
This article is aimed at you – parents, grandparents, and guardians – who want to give their children unforgettable winter memories. And if you belong to those who must arm themselves with patience and wait for your turn, don’t worry – it’s worth planning the holiday now to fully utilize every moment of free time. I can reveal to you that there will also be plenty of attractions in Gdańsk in the second half of February (as you will soon discover in the next article).

A trip to the sea in winter may seem like an unusual idea, but in reality, it’s a hit! First of all, the fresh, iodine-rich air acts as a natural immunity booster – ideal for both the young and the old. If your children have recently been struggling with colds, a seaside walk might be the best "medicine".
But Gdańsk in winter is not just about the sea and beaches; there are plenty of attractions that will provide joy and good fun. Do you have an explorer's spirit? Put on your warm jackets because an emotion-filled outdoor game awaits you in the Tri-city forests. Want a bit of madness? Sharpen your skates and check out the ice rinks where you can have a blast sliding around. Or maybe you dream of a bit of exoticism? Meet the chatty birds in one of Gdańsk's most colorful attractions. And to top it all off, warm theater lights and a performance that will transport you to a completely different world.
However, the best part of it all is the time spent together! I invite you to a winter trip to Gdańsk!
The Parrot House is not just a place to meet exotic animals, but above all, a space where the youngest learn empathy and respect for nature. Colorful parrots fly freely above, meerkats observe their surroundings, and calm capybaras lazily rest. But this is not a classic zoo.
Entering the parrot house, you step into a completely different world – filled with chirping, colorful wings, and the curious gazes of the inhabitants of this extraordinary place. Each animal has its own story, and visitors can see what their daily life looks like.
This is a space where animals are treated with the utmost care. Their well-being is a priority, so visitors can see how their natural behavior looks, rather than forced tricks. Children learn that each animal has its own personality, needs, and the right to a comfortable life.

A visit to the Parrot House is a great opportunity to show children how important responsibility towards animals is. Through special educational workshops, the youngest learn that every animal has its needs, and taking care of it is more than just feeding. It’s also about caring for its health, space, and well-being. And if someone dreamed of feeding a parrot from their hand, it only takes a little patience and the right treats to form a unique bond with these extraordinary birds (which, however, for the sake of caring for the animals, depends on the parrots).
This is the perfect place to spend time close to nature while also gaining something more from this visit – not only beautiful memories but also a valuable lesson about respect and the world of animals.

Sometimes the child’s world seems simple and carefree to adults. But what if it hides emotions that are difficult to name, which accumulate until they find a completely unexpected way to express themselves? Charlie – the protagonist of the performance Charlie changes into a chicken presented by Teatr Miniatura – experiences this in the strangest way. When stress hits him, his body stops being his own – it transforms into various animals, as if they could express what he himself cannot say.
The theatrical adaptation of Sam Copeland's book is more than just a story about a boy who suddenly begins to undergo uncontrollable transformations. It’s a story about fear, a lack of safety, and a friendship that can brighten even the darkest moments. The creators of the performance ensured that this theme resonates in an accessible, humorous, and light-hearted form, while not losing the depth of the message.
The scenography and staging add an extraordinary dimension to the whole. The audience sits in the theater, but at the same time becomes part of the performance – the actors address them directly, step out into the audience, break theatrical conventions, and even move the action onto the balcony. All of this makes the performance lively and engaging, with children (and adults) fully invested in it.
Teatr Miniatura has created a show that speaks about important matters in a way that is understandable and close to children while also leaving room for reflection. If you are looking for a performance that will entertain, move you, and touch on essential topics, it’s worth giving it a chance during the holidays.
